New website transforms online presence for Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan

Studieförbundet Vuxenskolan (SV) is today Sweden's third largest study association. Every year, the organization engages over 300,000 people through its wide range of courses, study circles and projects. Their mission is to inspire people to discover their own potential and develop in interaction with others, through courses and study circles.

SV is an incredibly broad and geographically widespread organisation and their website serves as a hub – the place where everything comes together. SV’s website is in fact the interface between administration, all operations across the country and their customers. As such, high demands are placed on user friendliness, accessibility and structure – without compromising on design. Moreover, SV’s vision is to become Sweden’s leading study association by 2020, and thus all touch points with the organization need to be “best in class”. The site must be informative and inspiring at the same time, and this couldn’t be achieved with their previous website.

Initially, the assignment was to give a facelift to the start page, but it snowballed from there. Extensive work was needed to analyze and map users’ fundamental needs, laying the groundwork for defining the purpose and goals for SV’s website.

A large number of usability tests were also carried out to aid in restructuring all content and providing a new, more effective navigation. This also enabled us to kick-start the redesign, which resulted in new imagery, new fonts and graphic guidelines for the new site.

By reviewing the structure with an effect-mapping we created a new menu. Based on that premise, a large redesign job started. A new imagery was developed that focuses on the people who take part in SV’s different courses to create desire and inspiration. Furthermore, we toned down SV’s green colour was toned down, that went from a main color to an accent color, for a cleaner design that makes it easier for the people to look at.

Finally, typography and readability were also revised. Since the goal was to create a more enjoyable, inspiring and easy-to-use website for SV’s visitors, we prioritized content and layout.

Post-launch results:

  • The number of course enrollments has increased by 190%
  • Conversion rate has increased by 138%
  • The number of visitors has increased by 22%

Both our client, site editors and SV’s visitors have been very satisfied with the results of the new website. By simplifying the editors’ daily work, we have been able to save a lot of time and resources in the updating process.
