When Cloud Nine was founded, Episerver was the dominant CMS on the Swedish market. Especially for large, content-rich websites and intranets, where robust content management was critical and where there were many editors with different permission levels to take into consideration. Over the years Episerver has developed and is now a complete cloud-based Digital Experience Platform for all types of web publishing, including e-commerce. 2020 Episerver acquired the optimization platform Optimizely and decided in 2021 to adopt that name for the whole platform, where Optimizely is now an integral part.
Evolved but still .NET
One of the reasons behind Cloud Nine’s focus on Episerver from the beginning in 1999 was that Episerver was built on Microsoft’s code base, which suited our developers. When Episerver 4.0 launched in 2002, it was one of few commercial CMS to be based on .NET. Through acquisitions and further development the platform has successively, and very successfully, been developed into the full-fledged DXP it is today.
